What do you love most about APRA AMCOS?

We are the foundation for so many music creators being able to make a living from their craft. We exist for them and because of them, it’s a symbiotic relationship and a community. I love the work we do not just in ensuring songwriters and composers are fairly remunerated for their craft, but in our outreach efforts too, offering assistance to those less fortunate, injecting our passion into programs that support and ensure the creative pulse of Australia keeps pumping.

What makes you happy at work?

Working with great and creative people in a respectful, positive and flexible work environment.  Having a park down the road where I can get my weekly exercise in and having shower facilities at the office is also a huge bonus!

How has APRA AMCOS shaped your career?

Being a musician, for years I worked in retail and hospitality jobs as either a casual or working crazy hours part time. Coming to work with APRA AMCOS gave me the chance to funnel my passion and love of music into an office based career. It gave me the opportunity to build on my strengths in regards to quality customer service delivery and people connection and management; and I was finally able to take paid holidays and sick leave! Something that was missing from my pre APRA AMCOS life! I firmly believe that if you know what you want and you’re willing to work hard on yourself and in the work you do, anything is possible with regards to your career here at APRA AMCOS.

What was your main reason for wanting to join APRA AMCOS?

I wanted to move to a place where I could help to build people up. I quit my bar job on a Wednesday, played a gig at the Lansdowne Hotel on a Friday, and after bumping into an old friend there who worked with APRA AMCOS (and discovering there were jobs available), applied for a Mechanical Analyst role on the Monday. I interviewed and the rest as we say is history. After being with the company for about 12 months I naturally moved to the General Licensing Department where I have found a true home ever since. Now I finally feel a part of an organisation which is driven to helping the creatives among us, and in so doing, helping to bring music to the world! What better place to work can there be?
