Staff profile

Hannah Karkkainen
Senior Manager, Writer Services Operations

Years worked at APRA AMCOS:
8 years, started July 26th 2010

What do you love most about APRA AMCOS?
Obviously what we do for our members, but also the people we work with and the environment we work in.

What makes you happy at work?
I’ve been allowed to evolve through the roles I have been in and am now in a position that allows me to focus on my strengths and the things I enjoy doing. On top of that I’m sure most would agree it’s pretty easy to get along with the APRA team – there’s a real social element to working here.

How has APRA AMCOS shaped your career?
I worked as a Writer Services Representative for a few years and then gained an Acting Team Leader role. I did a short stint as a Team Leader in International Distribution working there for two months before taking 10 months maternity leave, with all intention of returning to this role. While I was on leave I applied for Manager, Writer Services Administration and started the role full time from November 2016. Recently have moved into the role of Senior Manager, Writer Services Operations. I feel that I have been supported in my career at APRA, whether it be through grants for training or taking part in the mentor program, having access to Leaders in the building that have supported me with my learning and decisions that I have made. I feel there is a real open door policy and if I needed some advice or someone to share my thoughts with all I had to do was ask.

What was your main reason for wanting to join APRA AMCOS?
A very long time ago I used to sing and write music. I knew (well I thought I knew) what APRA did for writers and wanted to be a part of it.
