Due to a change in the timing of the Awards (from 1991 the Awards were presented in November rather than May) there was no Awards presentation night for works performed in 1989/90. A special presentation of those Awards were made to the 1990 winners at the 1991 Awards Night and the following articles are dedicated to the extraordinary composers and songwriters whose works were those most performed during 1989/90.

One purpose in changing the timing of the Awards was to bring the presentation of the Awards closer to the year in which performances of the relevant works occurred. Thus, the Awards for works performed during 1990/91 were presented in November 1991, rather than May 1992.
