Apply - Master of Music in Film Composition
Seattle Film Institute has partnered with the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program to offer the original one-year Master of Music Degree in Music Composition for Film and Media and one of the only one-year film scoring programs available in the United States. The MM (Master of Music) in Film Composition degree is a thorough immersion into writing music for Film, TV, and other media and prepares graduates to enter those fields with the skill set, experience and professional portfolio necessary to launch a successful career. NSW - Newkulele Festival Newcastle

A biennial feature on the Newcastle music calendar, The Newkulele Festival offers a fantastic weekend celebrating the sounds of the ukulele. This unique event is open to all the family and suitable for any age group, and has a special appeal for music lovers.

The Festival features international acts and players from across Australia covering a wide range of music styles and accompanying instruments. Come along for two days and nights to feast on the diversity of sounds created around the beautiful, humble ukulele. The festival offers three stages of FREE music, markets, open mic opportunities, a cafe and bar, as well as showcasing two fabulous ticketed evening concerts, and workshops -  all inside Newcastle City Hall.

QLD - Closing Date: Access Arts

The Access Arts Achievement Award provides up to $10,000 in funding for Queensland artists, arts workers and producers with disability working in any art form to create, develop, present, produce, exhibit and/or tour their work.

This is the fifth and final year (2018) of the $10,000 Award. The Award is made possible by a generous donation from Access Arts Life Member, singer-song-writer Peter Vance.
Projects may start from 1 January 2019 and must be completed within 12 months or an alternative timeline approved by Access Arts.
Applications will be assessed based on the project’s artistic and/or cultural merit and innovation, opportunity for professional development and project viability.

NSW - Creative Mixing Masterclass w/ Jack Prest

Songwriter, mix engineer, producer and artist Jack Prest gives his unique insight into adding production and bringing a creative element to the mixing process.

Equally at home working on festival bangers or experimental electronica, Jack has lent his expertise to an array of artists including Sampa, Golden Vessel, Jonti, Godtet, The Preatures, Urthboy, and buzz worthy acts such as Donatachi, Benji Lewis, Julien Meir Leftenent, Bus Vipers, Azura, Yska and Jannah Beth. In addition to his mixing and production credits, Jack has also spent his time creating sound design and composition for dance and experimental theatre, having works featured at festivals around the globe.

The session will include key topics such as:

  • The difference between a standard mix and a creative/ production mix
  • The production process VS the mixing process
  • Taking a song from concept demo to completion
  • Bringing a creative production element to the mixing process
  • Mixing techniques for Electronic Music

Australia’s largest publicly voted music awards The Age Music Victoria Awards is back for its 13th year in 2018. Boasting a massive night of live music and accolades, the 2018 Awards will take place on Wednesday 21 November during Melbourne Music Week.
This year, the awards welcome new major partners, The Melbourne Recital Centre, which is hosting the event for the first time, Bendigo Bank who will be providing cash grants to the regional award winners, and The Archie Roach Foundation sponsoring the new Emerging Talent Award.

Also, for the first time, the Victorian Government will provide $10,000 to the newly titled Premier’s Prize for the Best Victorian Album of 2018, and $5,000 to the Premier’s Prize for the Best Victorian Breakthrough Act of 2018.

Entries Close - GYRO Big Boost Comp
Continuing their ongoing support to Australia and New Zealand's upcoming and independent artists, GYROstream today announce their huge new artist discovery and development competition, 'Big Boost'. Aiming to give artists the leg up they need to take their music global, the contest boasts an array of pivotal music career prizes valued at a whopping $10,000. 
A jam packed package which tackles all aspects of an artist's career, the winner will receive return flights to Brisbane from either Auckland or any capital city in Australia, as well as three nights accomodation at Airlock Studios owned by Ian Haug (Powderfinger, The Church). This is followed by two full days recording a single in Airlock Studios (used by Amy Shark, Jungle Giants, Tia Gostelow + more), alongside professional mixing and mastering and a PR Campaign with Global Distribution that will propel the new single into the world, powered by GYROstream.

Looking towards the artist's future, the winner will also receive a days worth of industry mentoring sessions from booking agents and managers, alongside a professional photo shoot to enhance the acts image. Entries are open until Sunday 2 December, the competition will be judged by a panel of top industry professionals with the winner announced on Monday 10 December. Recording sessions will take place January/February of 2019.
