Take your composition career to the next level at High Score: Composition and Sound Art for Gaming, a new one day event dedicated to the art of creating music for games. Across four sessions, leading composers unpack their practices, techniques and styles, and explain how they collaborate with game creators.

A not-to-be-missed event for composers and music enthusiasts alike.

Meghann O'Neill

Composer, games reviewer and music teacher Meghann O'Neill takes you through generative music, sound design and world building and provides a snapshot of the types of games being made in Australia and New Zealand. Meghann will also break down different styles of sound design, and look at how it is used in games including Mini-Metro, Transistor and FTL.

How do composers and game creators work together? Find out when Soap Creative founder Ash Ringrose and composer Jared Underwood come together to discuss their working relationship. The pair has collaborated on a number of SMG Studio iOS games including Over The Top Total Tower Destruction, One More Line, One More Dash and Thumb Drift.

Maize Wallin

As a composer, curator and creator of live art performances, Maize Wallin has worked with a variety of virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality technology. In this session, she looks at the different approaches she takes for each format, and the hardware and software required. Maize also demonstrates entry level techniques for audio teams looking to build their skills.

Neal Acree, Angharad Yeo

In his first Australian appearance, award-winning film, television and game composer Neal Acree discusses his career with Angharad 'Rad' Yeo, host of ABC ME’s Spawn Point. Neal sheds light on his compositions for game franchises World of Warcraft, Overwatch, StarCraft and Diablo, as well as TV shows like Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Witchblade. Neal also answers your questions about his music, which has been recorded and performed by orchestras around the world.
