NSW - Starting Ground Tamworth

You are invited to attend the Tamworth Starting Ground workshop at the Youthie. Aboriginal songwriters and musicians at any stage in their career who are looking to expand their skills, are encouraged to register. APRA AMCOS and Arts NorthWest are coordinating the event, in partnership with Create NSW.

Over two days, the workshop will be run by a mix of top artists and industry pros.

Coming along to Tamworth are songwriters/performers Leah Flanagan, Buddy Knox and Radical Son, producer/engineer Anna Laverty (Courtney Barnett, Something For Kate) and artist manager Greg Carey (The Rubens, Saskwatch and Urthboy), of Grow Yourself Up.

APRA AMCOS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander National Representative Michael Hutchings will be onground to facilitate the sessions.

The sessions at Starting Ground will explore many facets of the industry:

  • Songwriting
  • Music production
  • Artist management
  • Booking gigs/performing
  • Touring
  • Copyright
  • Marketing and promotion

Artists who have been mentored at previous Starting Ground workshops include Loren-Jade Ryan, Athol Munro, Dylan Goolagong, Maddi Lyn, Sean Kinchela, Tom Avery and Tamwah Williams.

The City of Ryde recognises the outstanding musical talent of our Youth and will be holding a Battle of the Bands competition for 2019. The competition is open to all youth bands and will give them the chance to perform live and showcase their talents to the community at the concert.
Bands will be shortlisted by a panel of judges, including Guest Judge and APRA AMCOS Ambassador Isabella Manfredi from The Preaturesand the top three entries will be invited to perform at the City of Ryde Australia Day concert. 
A judging panel will finalise a winner on the night and will award the winning band with a cash prize of $1000. There will also be a ‘Peoples Choice’ cash prize on the night of $250.
The winner will be announced at the City of Ryde Australia Day concert.
