ORiGiN Music and APRA AMCOS announce Pan-Asian Digital Licensing Agreement

Wednesday, 15 Feb 2017

APRA AMCOS and Sydney-based independent music publisher ORiGiN Music (Wally De Backer, Cookin’ On Three Burners, James Morrison) have signed a Pan-Asian digital and online rights licensing and administration agreement.

Under the agreement, APRA AMCOS will represent ORiGiN and its represented publishing catalogues, including the recently signed Bucks Music catalogue, on a multi-territory basis throughout Asia in licensing its repertoire to key mobile and online digital music and media services.

ORiGiN co-founder Philip Walker said, “Asia is a key region in our global expansion strategy and we are excited to join the APRA AMCOS Pan-Asian licensing hub, a proven multi-territory digital regional hub that will ensure our songwriters get paid fairly and efficiently in this notoriously difficult market”.

ORiGiN has become the fifth global publisher to work with APRA AMCOS on its Pan-Asian digital licensing and administration initiative launched in July 2013. ORiGiN joins Universal Music Publishing, Peermusic, Imagem and Hillsong Music as part of the initiative, which covers the Asian region including India and China.

As legal digital services begin to gain traction across Asia, rights holders, service providers and users alike are benefitting from APRA AMCOS’s efficient multi-territorial licensing initiative, which opens up a significant proportion of the world’s leading music.

APRA AMCOS Chief Executive Brett Cottle said

“ORiGiN are an exciting and fast growing independent player with an extremely important roster of Australian and international writers. We’re excited to be partnering with them as they push towards their 25th year in the business as a true global player. This agreement signifies the importance of the Asian digital market.
