Congratulations to member Tim Curnick on winning the 2017 Jackie Orszaczky Music Composition Competition. The accolade was announced at the Jackie Orszaczky Music Lecture held at The Basement on Tuesday 30 May 2017.

The night was a fitting celebration of the life and work of Jackie Orszaczky – a Hungarian Australian bassist, bandleader and composer based in Sydney who had an enduring influence on the musicians around him.

Members of his bands, including Tina Harrod and Darren Percival, performed a set of Orszaczky penned songs and instrumental pieces.

Music journalist, playwright and librettist John Shand delivered an inspiring tribute to the honesty in Jackie’s music,

In a country that suffers from severe cultural amnesia and in a world where truth is under grave threat, we must keep alive the legacy of an artist like the late Jackie Orszaczky, who understood all music was one and who only knew one way to sing and play: honestly.

APRA AMCOS, along with the Live Music Office, is proud to support the Jackie Orszaczky Music Lecture and Composition Competition. The winner of the $2,000 cash prize is selected by members of the Jackie Orszaczky Band. Find out more
