ALEX HOPE

Three words that best describe you:

empathetic, workaholic, sock enthusiast

My favourite place to think and write is:

In bed

The song that everyone should listen to right now is:

Say My Name - Tove Styrke

The last lyric I wrote was…

Yesterday!! ;)

If I wasn’t a songwriter, I would be…

A psychologist

Past or present – my dream collaborator is:

Amy Winehouse

The future for songwriters is exciting because…

I believe the music industry is changing everyday and there is a new spotlight on those who work behind the scenes, a new understanding and appreciation for those who create the music and the content. I’m also very excited to see more females involved in areas that have been predominantly male dominated!

A few words of wisdom for young women wanting to be a songwriter or producer…

Don’t wait for someone to give you permission. If you feel passionately about writing and/or producing you have to be proactive. We are lucky that it is a lot more affordable to make music independently and we have access to some amazing resources. Sometimes the only difference between a bedroom producer and a Grammy award winner is work ethic.

Copyright is meaningful to me because…

As an artist and a creator it gives me security and ownership of my original works. Copyright is my superannuation.

I am an APRA AMCOS Ambassador because…

I strongly believe in what they stand for and the support they provide for not only established songwriters but for the upcoming generations of music makers.
