Early bird tickets for The Melbourne Sessions on sale now, plus next round of artists and speakers announced

Wednesday, 18 Apr 2018

The inaugural one-day event for emerging songwriters and composers adds Alice Ivy, Benny Walker, games composer Jared Underwood and more!

A limited amount of early-bird discounted tickets are on sale now for The Melbourne Sessions, an all-new event presented by APRA AMCOS and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.

A ticket secures a place to a full day of masterclasses, workshops and networking opportunities for emerging and mid-career songwriters, all happening on Friday 6 July at Kindred Studios, Yarraville.

Just added to the bill of writers, composers and producers are breakout electronic artist Alice Ivy, acclaimed singer-songwriter Benny Walker, APRA Song of the Year nominee Ainslie Wills, and total pro Jake Mason of Cookin’ On 3 Burners. Plus hip-hop and jazz artist Lady Lash, producer Greg Walker (aka Machine Translations), and ARIA & J Award winning singer-songwriter Jae Laffer (The Panics).

"As someone who has participated in songwriting workshops, I know that they can bring real ideas, inspiration, collaborations and actual songs to life. I am really looking forward to helping all that creativity come to fruition,” says Wills, who will be guiding participants in a small-group workshop.

As part of a dedicated component for screen composers, we are excited to announce that indie video games virtuoso Jared Underwood (who often works under the guise of Batterie) will be leading a masterclass. His innovative electronic grooves are featured in One More Jump, with game downloads surpassing 12 million.

Previously announced special guests include keynote speaker Warryn Campbell, the LA-based Grammy-winning writer/producer/executive who has worked with Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott and more; US-via-Zimbabwe hitmaker Shungudzo (The Chainsmokers, Little Mix, Jessie Ware), Melbourne’s own Ben Abraham, co-writer of Kesha’s smash Praying, Adalita, Joelistics, Harvey Miller of Client Liaison and more.

The Melbourne Sessions was created as a high-impact day to foster the creativity and connections of up-and coming songwriters and composers as they make professional inroads into the competitive global music market.

Following the keynote, delegates will attend a specialised masterclass session followed by a hands-on, small group workshop. The evening culminates with a curated performance and ample networking time.
