Screen Music Awards coming to Sydney
Host Denise Scott and Musical Director Jessica Wells return

Hosted jointly by APRA AMCOS and the AGSC (Australian Guild of Screen Composers), the Screen Music Awards return in 2018 to celebrate the musical masterminds behind Australia’s standout screen moments.

Taking place on Monday 19 November at the City Recital Hall in Sydney, the event will acknowledge the outstanding contribution of music composers across 12 categories, including compositions for documentaries, short films, mini-series, advertising, children’s television and feature film scores.

The APRA Board of Directors will determine the recipient of the Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen Award, an honour that encompasses outstanding contribution to the Film and Television industry, including, but not limited to producers/directors, philanthropists, educators, music supervisors and event producers that provide promotion, opportunities and education for Australian screen composers. The inaugural recipient in 2017 was composer and educator Martin Armiger.

The 2018 Screen Music Awards is also the first to take place under the leadership of new AGSC President, Caitlin Yeo and APRA AMCOS Chief Executive, Dean Ormston who said, “Australian composers and their music soundtracks play a vital role in telling our stories, to local and global audiences. I’m looking forward to celebrating both the local and international screen music achievements of our members with the AGSC.”

Returning to host the Screen Music Awards with her laugh-out-loud repartee is comedian, writer, actor and author Denise Scott. Denise recently joined breakfast television program Studio 10 as a permanent cast member.

And back on board as Musical Director is Jessica Wells, who will lead a live orchestra as they take a selection of works from the screen and bring them into the concert hall for a special performance.
