The Melbourne Sessions is back!

Thursday, 14 Mar 2019

Songwriters and composers will come together again to create and connect.

Limited early bird tix on sale now, featuring workshops with Joelistics, Jess Ribeiro, Mark Seymour, Angie Hart and more.

Following 2018’s sold-out debut event for emerging and mid-career songwriters and composers, The Melbourne Sessions is set to return, taking place on Friday 5 July at Kindred Studios, Yarraville.

Limited early bird discounted tickets are available now at themelbournesessions.com.au.

Presented by APRA AMCOS and the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria | Music Under Wings program, The Melbourne Sessions delivers a mix of genre-based masterclasses and workshops, designed to inspire, engage and strengthen Victorian songwriters and composers.

The program also includes an In Conversation with a yet-to-be-announced international guest and a newly-added music business panel to round out a day dedicated to song craft and professional development.

Collaborative workshops will feature an array of musical disciplines and specialties – from hip-hop production to electro-pop song craft, jazz composition to soul/funk/roots and beyond. Workshop leaders include legendary TV and film composer Cezary Skubiszewski, singer-songwriters Angie Hart, Mark Seymour, Bertie Blackman, and Jess Ribeiro, electronic artist LANKS, and EDM producer/remixer extraordinaire Ryan Riback.

Hip-hop artist and producer Joelistics, who will reprise his workshop duties from last year said:

“The Melbourne Sessions is about providing a forum to share, try on new ideas, and get to know other creatives. There was so much enthusiasm to learn and to be challenged at my workshop last year, I am thrilled to be coming back.” - Joelistics

APRA AMCOS Head of Member Services Jana Gibson said, "We are excited to continue our partnership with Creative Victoria to present an even stronger program for the Melbourne Sessions in 2019. The first event was a resounding success and provided more than 200 songwriters and composers invaluable access to mentors across multiple genres and created strong connections with other like-minded creatives."

"This year we’re expanding on that and offering more mentors and more skills development opportunities. While many artists work independently, it’s particularly prominent in music and these types of events can be integral to getting your career to the next stage."

Victoria’s Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley commented: “Through our Music Works initiative, we are supporting and strengthening Victoria’s music industry at all levels. We are proud partners of The Melbourne Sessions, an important career-building program which fosters the next generation of local songwriters and connects them with a network of mentors and artists. If you’re wanting to take the next step in your music career, I encourage you to take part.”

The Melbourne Sessions was created as a high-impact day to foster the creativity, connections and industry knowledge of up-and-coming songwriters and composers as they make professional inroads into the competitive global music market. The day culminates in fitting style with a curated performance and networking opportunities.
