Our members join the King's Birthday Honours List 2023

The 2023 King's Birthday Honours List recognised an incredible seven APRA AMCOS members for their services to the arts.

Three members were honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM); screen composer Lisa Gerrard, Pub Choir founder and director Astrid Jorgensen and Pitjantjatjara musician Bart Willoughby.

For their services to the performing arts, composer, educator and researcher Liza Lim and director & conductor George Torbay were honoured as Members (AM) in the General Division. Lim is also an APRA Art Music Award-winning composer, Art Music Fund recipient and mentor. Singer-songwriter Shellie Morris and author Tim Winton both received Officer (AO) in the General Division honours, for their ongoing service to the industry over many years.

Astrid Jorgensen
Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)
For service to the community as a musical director.

Bart Willoughby
Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)
For service to the performing arts, particularly through music.

Liza Lim
Member in the General Division (AM)
For significant service to the performing arts as a music composer and academic.

George Torbay
Member in the General Division (AM)
For significant service to the performing arts through music in a range of roles.

Shellie Morris
Officer in the General Division (AO)
For distinguished service to the performing arts, to the Indigenous community, and to not-for-profit organisations.

Tim Winton
Officer in the General Division (AO)
For distinguished service to literature as an author and novelist, to conservation, and to environmental advocacy.
