ALBERTS

Alberts would like to congratulate those enjoying success this awards season. The WAM Awards saw John Butler take Most Popular Video and Philip Stevens enter the WAM Hall of Fame. Harmony James has picked up CMAA nominations for Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year & Toyota Heritage Song of the Year. Also, big congratulations to all the talented writers shortlisted in this year’s Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition.

The wonderfully talented Montaigne enjoyed a busy spring, taking on Sia for Triple J’s Like A Version, touring with San Cisco and releasing a debut EP The Life Of Montaigne matched with an incredible clip for ‘I’m A Fantastic Wreck’.

Paul Grabowsky teamed up with Megan Washington, performing for Global Heads of Government at the G-20 Summit in Brisbane.

A small rural town in NSW was the first to hear AC/DC’s Rock or Bust (released in Australia 28/11/14) as the album launch took over the streets of The Rock. 

In sync, ‘You Rascal You’ featured in a commercial for Holden Colorado, ‘Forgive and Forget’ by The Kooks features in a promo for the Comedy Channel and ‘Play Ball’ by AC/DC featured as the opening titles to the International Cricket series.

 

CAAMA MUSIC 

Alice Springs-based indigenous record label CAAMA Music has announced a competition offering ten singer-songwriters from across Australia the chance to be flown to the red centre for ten days of musical master-classes and studio recordings.

The Alukura Music Competition (Alukura meaning ‘women’ in the native Arrernte language) will take place in CAAMA Music’s state of the art recording studios from 1 – 12 April 2015. There will be an artist from each state chosen to participate in the project, with an additional winner from both Torres Strait and the Northern Territory. 

Two of Australia’s best known and most loved indigenous artists Nardi Simpson and Kaleena Briggs of the Stiff Gins are going to be bringing their song writing, performance and industry expertise to the project as its mentors. Nardi Simpson said “We want to urge all young women who love to write and play their own music to put themselves out there and enter the competition. We are so delighted to be part of this amazing artistic and cultural project.”

A big congratulation to Hillsong United for its worldwide hit song, ‘Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)’ written by Joel Houston, Matt Crocker & Salomon Ligthelm, which was recently awarded Song Of The Year at the Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards in Nashville, TN. Along with this award, Hillsong United also received 4 other awards including Artist Of The Year, Worship Song Of The Year, Pop Contemporary Recorded Song of the year and Contemporary Christian Performance of the Year. In addition to the five awards UNITED received, GMA presented Hillsong Church with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their significant impact in the Christian and Gospel Music industry.

Hillsong United was also nominated for an award in the recent 2014 American Music Award.

Mushroom Music Publishing is excited to welcome award-winning producer Matik. Matik solely produced Pez’s ARIA-nominated album A Mind Of My Own. He also produced Bliss n Eso’s platinum-selling and ARIA-nominated albums Running On Air and Circus In The Sky.

Tropfest finalists have been announced and The Jezabels' Heather & Sam are amongst the talent.

Jakubi has recently signed a co-management deal with Brian Schwartz, a partner at 7s Management in Colorado. 7s have an incredible roster of artists including STRFKR, The Dandy Warhols and Dinosaur Jr amongst others. DMAs have landed another promo spot, this time for ‘Laced’ promoting Foxtel’s Soho Channel, Bliss N Eso have picked up a great sync from the USA in the trailer for the film Spare Parts, and we’ve put another run on the board for Sheppard in Australia with ‘Geronimo’ featuring on a Subway commercial.

MUSIC SALES

Move over Larrikin Music Publishing, we’re launching Happy as Larry Music Publishing.

Music Sales’ G.Schirmer composer, Ludovio Einaudi, has created a new work, ‘The Water Diviner Theme’ for the opening titles of Russell Crowe’s new film, The Water Diviner. Also, Einaudi’s song ‘Newton’s Cradle’ appears throughout the film.  Two more Einaudi songs were also licensed by Music Sales for the Making Of.. [the film], ‘Divenire’ and ‘Run’.

German-English composer Max Richter received a standing ovation at the Sydney Opera House after his Australian debut there 23 November. Performing his worldwide hit The Four Seasons Recomposed with violinist Yuki Numata Resnick and the acclaimed Wordless Music Orchestra from Brooklyn, New York, the artists went on to play the same program the next night at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

The Four Seasons Recomposed was originally released as one of 4 albums created by Deutsche Grammophon. This Vivaldi rework was a surprise breakaway hit, becoming one of the label's bestselling recordings since its 2012 release.  

Max Richter is represented by Music Sales in Australia & New Zealand via Chester Music Ltd. The print music is also now available from Chester Music (Music Sales) in a version for solo violin and piano.

 

NATIVE TONGUE MUSIC PUBLISHING

Native Tongue would like to congratulate composer, David Hirschfelder who won the prestigious Feature Film Score of the Year award for his work on The Railway Man at the 2014 APRA Screen Awards.

International songwriter & producer, Stuart Crichton has inked a worldwide deal with Native Tongue. Stuart has worked with a number of world-renowned artists such as; Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Elton John & Shirley Bassey as well as contributing to several top 10 UK and international hits.

On the sync front there have been uses for Parade Of Lights (BONDS), The Everlasters (T20 Big Bash TVC), Charles William (C&A Worldwide TVC), Gold Is For The Golden Team (Google App TVC), Battles ('The Little Death’ Trailer), Gin Wigmore (Johnny Walker), Kevin Morby (Zimmerman) & Freelance Whales (WA Water Corp) to name a few.

SHOUT! MUSIC PUBLISHING

SHOUT! is pleased to announce the recent signings of two administration deals with KXC Publishing out of the United Kingdom and New Zealand’s Mosaic Music (pictured), who took out the 2014 Vodafone NZ Music Award for Best Gospel/ Christian Album of the year for the debut release ‘You Surround’.

SHOUT! has also recently penned a deal with Melbourne based writer Greg Attwells for his entire back catalogue.

On the licensing front, ‘Five Families’ by SHOUT! writer, Ryan Taubert was picked up this month for a Samsung worldwide sync.

 

WIRRIPANG

Wirripang continues to be well represented in the AMEB and Trinity Syllabuses as well as having its composers selected for ABC and MBS Network broadcasts on an almost daily basis.  

We face 2015 with recording projects of considerable magnitude as well as the publication of three new books that we know of at present. We wish all a Happy Christmas and our best wishes for the exciting year on the horizon.
