ABC MUSIC

ABC Music announced a big month for our screen music composers and congratulated Cain Horton and Paul Kingston on being chosen to write the title theme for Giggle & Hoot spin off programme Hoot Hoot Go! Sean Peter will be responsible for original incidental music and arrangements for the series.

Rosie Westbrook is composing for the ABC TV Arts documentary Patricia Piccinni: A Dark Fairy Tale and David Bridie for two episodes of Restoration Australia.

The ABC launches its Kids Play App featuring songs by Sean Peter, Ross Tipper & Ashleigh Steel, Paul Kingston and Cain Horton and Lior.

We also congratulate Charlton Hill & Justin Shave on being chosen to compose the original music package for the ABC’s expanding catch up/online platform iView.

And another nod to Pete Drummond for his outstanding original music for The Killing Season which received unprecedented acclaim and ratings for ABC TV.

ALBERTS

The ABC has broadcast the first part of ‘Blood & Thunder: The Sound Of Alberts,’ a two-part series by Bombora Film & Music Co and Beyond Screen. The documentary takes viewers back to the 60’s & 70’s, charting the evolution of the unique Australian brand of rock & roll. The second part will air on ABC Thursday 2 July.

Nicole Millar whose songwriting and vocal talents were featured on Peking Duk’s hit song ‘High’ and Patrick James, who has been featured in the TV series Wonderland have both signed with Alberts. Sharing a common goal of supporting and developing local talent, The A&R Department have also signed a new deal with Alberts.

The Cat Empire have embarked on their European festival tour which includes a sold out show at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

San Cisco are also currently on their sold out North American tour.

In licensing, ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ features in a TV promo for Love Child (Series II), ‘I’m Shipping up to Boston’ features in a commercial for Woolworths AFL sponsorship, ‘Thunderstruck’ features in the trailer for Ted 2and‘What I did for Love” features in a promo for The Bachelor.

MUSHROOM

Mushroom Records have great pride in acknowledging the significant voice of Archie Roach, named in the 2015 Queen’s Honours - awarded an AM in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his significant service to the performing arts as a singer, songwriter and guitarist and to the community as a spokesman for social justice. Archie has a new album ‘Let Love Rule’ slated for later in the year via Liberation Music.

Sydney garage pop-rockers Palms have just signed to Ivy League Music ahead of their new album. To celebrate, they’ve released a new single Bad Apple’ which was recorded by Owen Penglis (Royal Headache, Straight Arrows).

Locally, we are excited to announce three new additions to the family with Electronic pop act Anthony Kupinic (AKA Pludo), discovered busking in Melbourne, Perth’s Helen Shanahan, Telstra Road To Discovery winner and Melbourne producer and artist John Lee AKA Mountains In The Sky.

Birds of Tokyo are back with Anchor EP following up on 2013’s hit album ‘March Fires.’ The EP was made in collaboration with Tool/Muse producer David Bottrill.

Oh MercyNATIVE TONGUE 

Native Tongue writer Stuart Crichton has scored his first Japanese Chart #1 with co-written track ‘Can't Wait To Love You’ performed by Korean act Beast.

Oh Mercy’s fourth studio album When We Talk About Love’ debuted at number 28 on the ARIA Albums Chart and are touring nationally this August/September.

Born Lion have been seriously carving a name for themselves as a domestic rock’n’roll tour de force. Their debut album ‘Final Words’ is out 3 July via FOUR|FOUR Music and they’re touring nationally this July with Yellowcard.

Having weathered a two-year break up, the exit of members and personal obstacles, The Getaway Plan will unveil their anticipated third LP Dark Horses on 3 July. The band will hit the road this September for an extensive national tour.

On the sync front, Black Mustang’s track The One’ features in a German advertisement for Telco brand Otelo. There have also been placements for Justice (SBS Promo), Jonathan Boulet (ABC Radio App), Bertie Blackman (Scream) & Meghan Trainor (House Rules Promo). 

SOURCE MUSIC

Fast-emerging producer/songwriter, the super chilled Rod Ladgrove has just been signed for publishing to Source Music. His single 'Holding On Tonight' is a bolt from the blue. It's influences dig wide and deep in creating a hooky, eclectic chill-house pop anthem to dance you warm through winter.

"This song just fell from the sky right onto me," says Rod. "It makes you believe in magic as a songwriter. It's about hanging on. Never giving up on love. And the beauty and security of knowing what you have."

"Holding On Tonight" follows on the success of Ladgrove's 'India', which gained play on triple j and was championed by the likes of Lewi McKirdy and Linda Marigliano. He performed earlier this year alongside Daniel Lee Kendall and Husky during Adelaide Fringe season, and will take his recent success on the road through July and August.

'Holding On Tonight' is out now on Triple Double Records.

UNIVERSAL (UMP AUSTRALIA)

UMP Australia has recently signed multi-platinum duo Peking Duk to an exclusive publishing deal. "We are very stoked to have joined Heath and the Universal Publishing family for Australia and New Zealand," said Reuben Styles of Peking Duk. 

Undoubtedly the breakthrough Australian act of 2014, Peking Duk have continued to gain momentum in 2015. They had the honour of having two singles in the top five of triple j’s Hottest 100, completed a sold-out Peace, Love & Sweatiness regional domestic tour, won a Rolling Stone award for Best Video and their latest single ‘Take Me Over’ feat. SAFIA has achieved 2x platinum sales. The anthem ‘High’ feat. Nicole Millar recently amassed sales in excess of 3x platinum, and the song delivered the 'Breakthrough Artist' award at the 2014 ARIA Awards. To top it off, they took home the first ‘Artist of the Year’ Prize at the InTheMix Awards.
