Who's listening? Meet the Vanda & Young Song Comp judges

When you enter the 2016 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition, you’re getting your songs to the ears of some of the most influential and connected people in music. The competition’s judges are respected songwriters, producers, artist managers, record label reps and media from around the world, and they’ll be listening to your work.

Who are they? Read on.

Amanda Brown (AU)

Award-winning APRA Board member Amanda Brown has been composing music for stage and screen since 2000 and before that enjoyed a career as a multi-instrumentalist in several bands. She was a member of legendary Australian band The Go-Betweens, with which she recorded two albums (Tallulah and 16 Lovers Lane) and toured the world. James Blundell (AU)

James Blundell is a country music icon. He was the first young Australian country act to sign a major record deal in Nashville which paved the way for the likes of Keith Urban, Catherine Britt and Kasey Chambers. In addition to his own success, James has penned hits for Lee Kernaghan, Slim Dusty and Jimmy Little. He is also the recipient of numerous CMAA Awards, double platinum, platinum and gold sales awards and is an ARIA Award winner.

Audra Mae (USA)

American singer/songwriter Audra Mae has huge list of writing credits that includes Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, Susan Boyle and Reece Mastin. She also featured on Avicii’s Addicted to You, among many other achievements. Hear her powerful vocals on Addicted to You in the clip below.

Fiona Bevan (UK)

British singer/songwriter Fiona Bevan co-wrote the One Direction #1 smash Little Things with Ed Sheeran, and has since penned tracks for 5 Seconds of Summer and Billie Marten along with her own debut album.

Les Gock (AU)

As lead guitarist of 70s glam rock band Hush, Les Gock earned 12 gold records in five years. After the band broke up, he moved into advertising and started a business that became Song Zu, a music and sound design company in Sydney and Singapore. His new company Sound Thinking works to connect audiences and brands through music and audio. Katie Noonan (AU)

Katie Noonan is one of Australia’s most versatile and beloved vocalists. Since first receiving acclaim as the frontwoman of indie-pop band george, Katie has won four ARIA Awards and had platinum selling releases. Constantly blurring genre boundaries and exploring interdisciplinary collaborations, she was recently appointed the youngest ever Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival.

Greg Haver (UK/NZ)

Producer and musician Greg Haver has had a long-standing working relationship with the Manic Street Preachers including producing their album Lifeblood. He has produced several top 40 singles for INME and worked with an eclectic list of artists including Melanie C, Super Furry Animals, John Cale, Bullet for My Valentine and loads more. Simon Lewicki (AU)

Also known as Groove Terminator, producer and DJ Simon Lewicki has been an influential force in Australian music for close to 30 years. The first DJ in Australia to sign to a major label under his own name, he released two albums and has since relocated to Los Angeles. Simon is also the co-founder of the publishing arm of Ministry Of Sound Australia - 120 Music Publishing. Trey Campbell (USA)

Fast-rising songwriting star Trey Campbell has worked with some impressive talent from his LA base, including BeBe Rexha, Florrie and Dua Lipa. He recently spent some time at SongHubs where he wrote songs with Australians including Dami Im and Jon Hume and sampled the local cuisine.
