USA Report: February 2016

Monday, 22 Feb 2016

There’s been a stack of celebrations, events and VIP visits for our LA-based members of late, and our rep on the ground, Isabel Pappani, has been there to get the inside scoop.  Don’t forget to get in touch with Isabel if you’ve relocated to the USA or are simply passing through – she’s always happy to hear from you!

Australians in Film event

APRA AMCOS joined forces with film industry association Australians in Film to host an Australia Day celebration for members in LA. The event was a raging success, and featured performances by Satellite Sky, Phebe Starr, Toby Rand, Andy Clockwise and The Mavis’s Becky Thomas

G’Day USA and Foreign Minister visits

APRA AMCOS members were given the opportunity to perform to star-studded audiences at G’Day USA events thanks to our partnership with the Australian Consulate-General, Los Angeles. Hayley Warner was chosen to perform at the LA gala while Georgi Kay and Marcia Hines were invited to perform in New York.

We were also lucky to have a visit from Australia’s Foreign Minister, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, through our connection with G’Day USA. The Foreign Minister praised the abundance of Australian talent around the world, and personally pledged her continued support of the arts.

Grammy Awards

We were thrilled to see APRA AMCOS members Tame Impala, Hiatus Kaiyote and Courtney Barnett all honoured with Grammy Award nominations this year. The Awards ceremony was also a momentous occasion for Hayley Warner, whose co-written the track Hollow was performed by Tori Kelly and James Bay on the night.

APRA AMCOS was also proud to host a pre-awards event for a hundred of our local writers at the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood. Industry and members mingled over nibbles and drinks while our LA-based members Phebe Starr and David Ryan Harris gave stunning performances.
