Vale Andrew ‘Greedy’ Smith

Thursday, 05 Dec 2019

We mourn the loss of Mental As Anything’s Andrew ‘Greedy’ Smith, who died unexpectedly this week.

An APRA member since 1979, the songwriter, lead singer and harmonica player co-founded Mental As Anything in the late 1970s. The band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2009.

Greedy wrote many of the bands hits, including ‘Live It Up’, ‘Let’s Go To Paradise’, ‘He’s Just No Good For You’, ‘Too Many Times’ and ‘Spirit Got Lost’. The band enjoyed international success, particularly after ‘Live It Up’ featured in Crocodile Dundee and subsequently charted top 10 in many countries. ‘Live It Up’ was awarded the Most Performed Australasian Popular Work at the 1987 APRA Awards.

A live touring stalwart, Greedy’s last live gig with the band was on 23 November in NSW.

He will be greatly missed by the music community. Our thoughts are with his family, band members and friends.
