Briggs to host Virtual APRA Music Awards

Thursday, 30 Apr 2020

The one-hour online broadcast of the 2020 Virtual APRA Music Awards will take place on Monday 25 May from 7:00pm AEST via HYVIO’s global streaming platform. Featuring one-off performances (specially curated by Musical Director Kate Miller-Heidke) and some of Australia’s biggest songwriting success stories of 2019, event proceedings will be kicked off with a virtual red carpet.

Joining us as host for the #VAPRAs will be the incomparable Australian rapper, lyricist, hip hop artist, writer, actor and all-round super talent Briggs. He was named APRA Songwriter of the Year in 2018 (for A.B Original with co-writer Trials) and was a winner at the 2017 Screen Music Awards. Briggs was most recently seen kicking out the jams with Tim Minchin in their satirical isolation collaboration HouseFyre.

From 6:30pm AEST the #VAPRAs will kick off a virtual red carpet. Music fans from around the world are invited to dress up in their rock n’ roll finery and share selfies and fashion fun with customised #VAPRAs red carpet Instagram filters.

We were moving so quickly to ensure our 2020 APRA Music Awards nominees could have an event to recognise their success over the past year, that we overlooked the very important fact that May 26 is Sorry Day. Sorry Day is a national day of reflection where all Australians can reflect and express regret for the historical mistreatment of Aboriginal people, in particular the Stolen Generations, and not an appropriate time for a celebration. So, we have respectfully moved the 2020 Virtual APRA Music Awards (#VAPRAs) to Monday 25 May.

Please put the new #VAPRAs date Monday 25 May in your ‘iso’ diary and bookmark this link

We hope you’ll join us then.
