Happy Gravy Day from all of us at APRA AMCOS

Monday, 21 Dec 2020

We are so excited to share a special rendition of Paul Kelly's seminal classic How To Make Gravy, today on the 21st of December – a date fans of the song have dubbed ‘Gravy Day.’

A host of Australian songwriting royalty and talented staff members have banded together on the musical collaboration to wish APRA AMCOS members, licensees and the wider industry a happy and safe festive season following a difficult year for many.

Kelly composed the song in 1996 after he was invited to record a track for an annual charity Christmas album organised by respected musician Lindsay Field. In search of an original take on the classic Christmas song, Kelly focused on a protagonist, Joe, stuck in prison, writing a letter to his family longing to be with them over Christmas. Since its release, the song has become a part of Australian folklore and earned its place as the country’s unofficial Christmas anthem.

APRA AMCOS would like to thank Paul Kelly, Bill Cullen, Sony/ATV Music Publishing and all the fantastic musicians involved; Abby Dobson, Alana Jagt, Benny Walker, Catherine Britt, Charles Jenkins, Donna Woods, Evan Mannell, Georgia Mooney, Jeremy Craib, Kav Temperley, Kellie Lloyd, Leah Flanagan, Liz Stringer, Mark Lizotte, Pete Murray, Peter Fenton, Tim Levinson (Urthboy), Richard Davison and Troy Cassar-Daley.
