Sia acknowledged on The 1,000,000,000 List

One of our most prolific exports, Sia Furler, becomes our most prolific songwriter on The 1,000,000,000 List with an impressive nine (9!) songs.

This accolade is one of a long list of awards for Sia, including a plethora of APRA Music Awards, starting with APRA Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year in 2002, APRA Songwriter of the Year in 2013, 2014, and 2015, and many others for her individual hit songs.

Here is The 1,000,000,000 List roll call:

Dusk Til Dawn

Released in 2017 by ZAYN, ‘Dusk Til Dawn’ made a big splash on the charts, selling over 28,000 downloads in the UK within the first week. The pop ballad has accrued almost 1.3 billion views on YouTube alone and featured in the official trailer for 2017 film The Mountain Between Us. In Australia, the track has been certified 4 times platinum.

Chandelier

Arguably one of Sia’s best known songs, ‘Chandelier’ was an enormous worldwide success, receiving 4 nominations at the 57th GRAMMY Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video. ‘Chandelier’ broke the top 5 on charts in over 20 countries and has featured on multiple television shows, including Hit the Floor, Wonderland, Selfie, Unreal, Please Like Me, Transparent, Shades of Blue, and more. It won the 2015 APRA Song of the Year, and 2016 APRA Most Played Australian Work Overseas award.

Chained to the Rhythm

Performed by Katy Perry, the 2017 hit ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ earned over 3 million streams within 24 hours of its Spotify release, breaking the record for the highest 1st day streaming for a single track by a female artist.  Katy Perry and Skip Marley performed it live at the GRAMMY Awards, the Brit Awards and the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The track reached number one in Hungary and Latvia, as well as the top 5 in Australia, Canada, France, the UK and USA.

Elastic Heart

Originally released as the second single from the soundtrack for the film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, ‘Elastic Heart’ was then re-released as part of Sia’s sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear. Its accompanying music video featuring Maddie Ziegler and Shia LeBeouf was the 8th most viewed video on YouTube in 2015, with the track peaking at number 7 on the New Zealand national singles chart.

The Greatest

With over 500 million streams on Spotify alone, ‘The Greatest’ has been interpreted as a tribute to the 49 victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting of 2016.

Cheap Thrills

‘Cheap Thrills’ peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was Sia’s first number one single in that chart, and she became the first woman over 40 years old to top the Hot 100 since Madonna in 2000. It sold an impressive 1.7 million copies in the US in 2016, becoming the 10th best selling song of the year in the country. Back on home turf, ‘Cheap Thrills’ was certified quadruple platinum in Australia and scored the 2017 APRA Pop Work of the Year, and APRA Most Played Australian Work Overseas award in 2018 and 2019.

Alive

Sia’s ‘Alive’ saw her nominated for the Juno Award for Songwriter of the Year, and was voted in at number 56 on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2015. The powerful track featured in the film The 5th Wave, and peaked at #10 on the ARIA charts.

Diamonds

‘Diamonds’ was released in September 2012 and by December of the same year, it became Rihanna’s 12th number 1 song on the US charts. With its release, Rihanna became only the 2nd artist of 2012 to top both the Billboard singles and album charts simultaneously. Since then, it has been certified 6 times platinum in the USA, Australia and Sweden.

Titanium

Released in 2011, ‘Titanium’ rose to the number 1 spot in the UK, becoming David Guetta’s 5th #1 single, and Sia’s first in the UK. The song has appeared in Gossip Girl, the film Wild Tales, and performed in the movie Pitch Perfect as well as the TV series Perfect Harmony.

Congratulations to Sia, and her publisher Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
