Supports women in artist management: apply by 17 April (extended)

Established in memory of pioneering artist manager Linda Gebar, The Lighthouse Award expands in 2020 by doubling the amount of the award from $5,000 to $10,000 and opening up applications beyond Victoria to Australia-wide. The Lighthouse Award supports women and gender minorities in the field of artist management who exhibit passion, creativity and integrity.

Applications are open now until Friday 17 April 2020, 5pm (AEST) (extended)

Linda Gebar died tragically in October 2008 soon after the birth of her second child. She was one of the few women in artist management in the 90s, and worked with The Killjoys, Frente and The Blackeyed Susans. She also booked the Punters Club, worked at PBS FM, had a record label and worked at APRA AMCOS.

Linda was a truly passionate believer in local music and the community that surrounded it, and was a mentor and colleague to many. This memorial award exists to continue Linda’s work, and support a forward-thinking manager who is dedicated to Australian music.

Previous recipients of The Lighthouse Award include Jen Cloher, Bonnie Dalton, Bernadette Ryan, Sabrina Robertson and last year's recipient Lorrae McKenna.

APRA AMCOS is proud to support The Lighthouse Award and open it up to a country-wide applicant pool.

"The Lighthouse Award's growth stems from the strength of past recipients and the impact that this grant has on a manager's career and the music creators they support and champion," said Chris O'Neill, Senior Manager – National Engagement, APRA AMCOS.

On her year since winning, Lorrae said, "I felt incredibly honoured to be the recipient of the 2019 Lighthouse Award, and to be recognised alongside such esteemed and talented previous recipients was incredibly humbling and validating. Thanks to APRA AMCOS and this award, I was able to travel to the USA twice in 2019, (first to SXSW and then to Indie Week in NYC later in the year), both of which were immeasurably valuable experiences for me, both personally and professionally."

The Lighthouse Award represents APRA AMCOS’ commitment to addressing the gender imbalance within the music industry and encouraging women to pursue a career in music.

Applications close 17 April 2020, and the recipient will be announced in May.
