Thursday, 29 Oct 2020

The Australian Music Prize (The AMP), now in its 16th year, is on track to deliver a shortlist and winner in 2021.

The judges have been listening to over 300 albums since June, and have selected 52 album as contenders for the best album of 2020 – so far! See the full list below.

“The world needs music more than ever, and anything that we can do to support songwriters and artists to keep creating is critical. This year might have been the most challenging ever to write, record, release and/or promote an album, but also the most meaningful to fans and the music industry at large. We’re a longtime and proud supporter of The Australian Music Prize for keeping a spotlight on new Australian music.” Dean Ormston – APRA AMCOS CEO

“Music is about uniting people and now more than ever we all need a bit of hope and happiness. I’m excited the Mushroom Group is supporting The Australian Music Prize (AMP) once again in 2020. It’s an important award offering recognition and support to our best independent Australian artists and songwriters, acknowledgement needed more than ever as our local music industry goes through these difficult times.” Michael Gudinski – Chairman of Mushroom Group

“It’s important to note that the process is ongoing…The Stage 1 judges will be listening right up to the end of the year as albums will be released until then – so the list of Nominated albums will grow.” Scott B. Murphy – AMP Founder and Prize Director
