L-R Gold Coast songwriters: Ray Burton, Alisha Todd, Holly Terrens, Wongo

Virtual and in-person collaboration to take place at Bignote Productions

APRA AMCOS and the City of Gold Coast are partnering for the second year in a row, along with Kobalt Music Publishing, to bring standout local music talent together with top Australian and international hitmakers for a four-day SongHubs intensive songwriting residency.

From 16-19 October, the group of songwriters, artists and producers will collaborate in-person under COVID safe guidelines at Bignote Productions as well as virtually with participants in other states and overseas. The task at hand will be to write, produce and record a song by the close of business each day.

Eleven songwriters and producers hailing from the Gold Coast were selected through a competitive application process. They represent a wide range of genres and career experience: legendary songwriter and The Executives frontman Ray Burton (Helen Reddy's 'I Am Woman'), dance music producer Wongo, international pop collaborator Holly Terrens (Jan Chan, EthanUno), folk-pop troubador Alisha Todd, solo artist and songwriter Montgomery (Troye Sivan, The Presets), Doolie and more.

Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Jennifer Decilveo (Andra Day, Demi Lovato, Bat for Lashes) will curate the sessions virtually from Los Angeles and has invited along LA songwriter Britten Newbill (John Legend, Sam Fischer), rising Nashville star Caitlyn Smith, as well as siblings George Sheppard and Amy Sheppard of chart-topping group Sheppard as special guests.

It's a one-of-a-kind opportunity for Gold Coast talent to connect and produce new, commercially-viable music with established creators, and it's made possible with the support and vision of the City of Gold Coast's Music Action Plan.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said it is clear the local creative musical talent will continue thriving thanks to the City’s Music Action Plan.

“Our music industry is really forging ahead. I congratulate everyone on their selection for the program and look forward to hearing their songs," said the Mayor.

Milly Petriella, APRA AMCOS Director Member Relations said, "The aim of SongHubs is to broaden our members' professional networks and their creative capabilities, so we are very proud to partner with the City of Gold Coast for these innovative virtual and in-person sessions, particularly in such a challenging time for music creators and the industry at large.”

Since SongHubs launched in 2013, over $2 million in performance royalties for the initiative's collaborators has been earned. SongHubs has produced commercial releases for the likes of Briggs, Troye Sivan, Kate Miller-Heidke, Morgan Evans, Dean Lewis, Client LiaisonPeking Duk, Tkay MaidzaAinslie WillsThe Chainsmokers, Guy Sebastian, Ecca Vandal and many more.
